Southminster - Senior Arts Facilitator

Position: Senior Arts Facilitator
Job Type: Contract
Offer Range: $40-$60 per hour, DOE

Southminster stresses lifelong learning and offers a wide variety of engaging programs.  Our residents have great passion for fine and performing arts.  As part of our fine arts programming, we offer two levels of art instruction for our Independent Living residents.  The Art Fundamentals group is a beginner level class open to anyone in the community. The Southminster Art Group has 20 members that are more experienced artists looking to continue to develop their skills. 

Southminster Retirement seeks a Senior Arts Facilitator to lead our 2 independent living art classes 3 Thursdays a month. This contract position teaches approximately 15 hours a month and is responsible for our beginner’s and intermediate classes.

Responsibilities:

Lead the Southminster Art Group: Intermediate Art Class | 9:15 am – 12:00 pm | 3 Thursdays a month

  • Plan and execute a 60–90-minute lesson starting at 9:15 AM. Content should be chosen with the participants’ desires and supplies on hand in mind.   Provide a signup sheet and work with individuals on a one-to-one basis the rest of the time period.
  • Hang SAG work in the left front window of the art studio.
  • Hang Artist of the Month artwork in the right front window of the art studio.
  • Send follow-up emails to all participants after class, including video links if applicable and what supplies are needed for the following session.
  • Occasionally assist with framing and/or hanging other Southminster exhibits
  • Occasionally assist residents with transporting art to the studio.
  • Utilize donated supplies as needed.
  • Clean, organize, and declutter storage cabinets and art supplies for class use.
  • Work closely with Life Enrichment on any special projects, exhibits or announcements.

Lead the Art FUNdamentals: Beginners Art Class | 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm | 3 Thursdays a month

  • Plan and facilitate lessons based on the elements or principles of art – The exercise or project should be completed in two hours.
  • Send supply list and order supplies annually through Life Enrichment Department for year of classes.
  • Oversee supplies purchased for Art Fundamentals in the provided storage in the art studio.
  • Hang Art Fundamentals work in the left front window of the art studio.
  • Send follow-up emails to all participants after class, including video links if applicable and what supplies are needed for the following session.
  • Maintain a roster of participants and share any changes with Life Enrichment for billing purposes.

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience teaching art (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in art education or fine art (preferred)
  • Experience working with seniors (preferred)
  • Classroom management (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills
