Charlotte Preparatory School - Long-Term Substitute Drama Teacher

OVERVIEW

Charlotte Preparatory School seeks a passionate, energetic, and creative individual to hold a temporary full-time, parental leave replacement teaching position with instruction of Drama to Lower School and Middle School students (K-8). The position is to begin late October 2024 and continue through mid-January 2025.

Requirements

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Instructional: K-6th grade classes 1x per cycle, and 7-8th grade classes 2x per cycle
  • Performances: Co-Direct 4th Grade play
  • After-school responsibilities: Assist in casting the 3-8th Grade Spring Musical in partnership with music director and choreographer
  • Continue to develop a strong theatre arts program for grades K-8.  This includes, but is not limited to, creative dramatics, basic acting technique, improvisation, technical theatre, foundations of theatre history, and playwriting
  • Engage students in learning theater performance, technical skills, and the ability to make qualitative judgments about performances
  • Work collaboratively with the fine arts team
  • Communicate with parents of drama students regarding expectations, events, and schedule as needed
  • Coordinate performances with the Fine Arts Director regarding concerts, drama performances, and other key campus events
  • Maintain an organized and neat classroom and costume and prop closet
  • Maintain clear, complete grade records and communicate clearly, regularly, and tactfully with parents of drama students
  • Prepare end-of-term reports and report cards
  • Attend divisional and full faculty meetings
  • Dress and behave professionally as outlined in the faculty handbook
  • Present a positive image of Charlotte Preparatory School to the outside community, including social networking sites
  • Other duties as assigned by Head of Lower School or Director of Fine Arts

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and/or Theatre Education required
  • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience as a drama teacher across multiple grade levels
  • Knowledge and experience in the instruction of the elements of a dramatic arts curriculum
  • Experience in performing as a professional, creating and casting dramatic and musical productions

  • Utilize technology to support instruction and assessment when appropriate 
  • Strong command of classroom management. Proven ability to establish and consistently follow through on classroom expectations to ensure safe and appropriate behavior.
  • Ability to see the needs and growth potential of the dramatic arts program
  • Ability to share his/her talent with the school community
