Charlotte Museum of History - Development Associate

Reports To: Development Director
FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt

Charlotte Museum of History is hiring for a full-time Development Associate. The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator who generates revenue for the museum by applying for grants, writing fundraising letters, helping with event planning, and cultivating strong relationships with potential donors. This person will report directly to the Development Director but will also work with other museum staff. Hours are Monday-Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm, but some evening and weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities

Support the Development Director in all fundraising activities of the museum:

  • Write fundraising appeals and acknowledgment letters for donors.
  • Process donations and accurately enter data into the CRM database. Manage accuracy of the database and communicate accordingly with various stakeholders for changes and updates.
  • Based on feedback from the team on current project and needs, research and apply for appropriate grant opportunities
  • Assist in coordinating and planning fundraising events
  • Perform prospect research and analysis for prospective donors and sponsors and collaborate with the Development Director and President & CEO on fundraising strategy.
  • Create monthly fundraising reports, mailing lists, and dashboards.
  • Handle the administrative details associated with development meetings (i.e. prepare and distribute notices, agendas, minutes, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Development Director.

Other Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Support the team by covering the Museum Shop & Visitor Information Center as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s degree in a related field, Bachelor’s preferred. Experience can be considered in place of education if explained in the cover letter.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in an administrative position, preferably in a not-for-profit development office preferred
  • Highly organized and detail oriented. Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with donor software and CRMs is highly desired.
  • Strong computer skills are necessary, specifically in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. (This is not the job for you if you are afraid to cold email someone or walk up to someone you don’t know and start a conversation.)
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and personal information with discretion and sensitivity.
